Here is a simple Imbolc ritual that both children and adults can enjoy.

 What you need:

  • A journal or paper
  • Something to write with
  • Flower bulbs (like tulips, crocus, daffodils, muscari, etc…)
  • A place to plant the bulbs
  • Maybe a digging tool

Begin the ritual by lighting a candle, chanting Om, burning incense, or whatever you feel like doing that signifies the beginning of a sacred moment.

Setting intentions:

In Mining the Mandala, I lead you through a detailed and holistic way to define and set your intentions for 2012.  If you are going on the Mining the Mandala journey with us, then use those intentions.  If these will be your first intentions of 2012, I invite you to take some time to explore what you want to create, manifest, and transform in 2012.

Some areas in your life that you may like to explore.  You may want to journal about them….

  • Home, livelihood, core relationships…
  • Creativity, beauty, sensuality….
  • Self-esteem, courage…
  • Connection, passion…
  • Self-expression…

Next, write out a manageable number of intentions that you can reasonably accomplish in 2012…

You need one bulb for each of your intentions.

Moving with awareness, staying focused, and allowing yourself all the time in the world, go to the place where you intend to plant the bulbs, bringing your journal page and your bulbs with you.

If you’re outside, dig a whole for each of the bulbs first.  If you’re planting in pots, prepare the pots now.

For each of your intentions, follow this sequence:

  • Take a bulb in your hands.
  • Bring the bulb to your heart.
  • Bring your intention into your awareness and allow it to circulate through your body and into your heart.
  • Send the energy of that intention into the bulb you’re holding in your hands.
  • Holding that energy, gently plant the bulb in the ground or in the pot and cover it.
  • Take a little moment to visualize the flower of the bulb emerging as your intention also emerges and blossoms.

Repeat these steps for each of your intentions.

Completion:

When you are finished planting, end the ritual by chanting Om, saying a prayer, or anything that gives you the feeling of closure.

Happy Imbolc!
